What do edible crickets taste like?
We describing the flavour as earthy and somewhere between mushrooms and meat.
How are the edible insects dried?
The processing method is over drying. This process removes most of the moisture (only <5% left) leaving the crickets crunchy and tasty. Furthermore, the product contains no added preservatives or flavouring.
What type of crickets are edible?
There are no reports of poisonous crickets in nature. Most species are edible, however the U.K. currently restricts the sale to Acheta Domesticus (common house cricket) and Banded Crickets. We do not recommend harvesting crickets from the wild, as they will have to go a very strict microbiological assessment to make sure they are safe. Also it is important that you consume those which have been fed a diet of approved feed (for example, the feed cannot include animal protein).
